The sixth edition of the EUPATI italian training  concluded in Rome on 13–14 February 2026 at the Scout Center. Over the past year, participants engaged in rigorous study, open dialogue and complex discussions, transforming their personal experience of illness into shared competence and collective responsibility. The programme has now delivered a new group of EUPATI Patient Experts, ready to bring a more informed, structured and authoritative voice into healthcare decision-making arenas.

Participants described the journey with words such as “informative,” “empowering,” “disruptive,” and “making the impossible possible,” reflecting not only training but also personal and civic growth: the ability to influence processes, understand regulatory pathways and interact effectively with institutions, researchers and industry.

The course opened with President Nicola Merlin and was guided by Scientific Director Paola Kruger through a dense, up-to-date agenda focused on the strategic role of patients. Key topics included the European Health Data Space Regulation, the role of Expert Patients in Ethics Committees, trust in data sharing, medical devices, and the use of artificial intelligence in clinical research and care. The second day addressed the new EU HTA Regulation before diplomas were awarded, marking a public commitment to place newly acquired expertise at the service of the community.
